Causes of chronic pharyngitis:
- smoking: long-term smoking leads to the development of chronic changes in the oropharyngeal mucosa due to exposure to a strong irritant effect of the constituent parts of tobacco smoke;
- harmful production conditions, especially chemical production;
- chronic diseases of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, caries and other inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity affect the development of a hypertrophic process in the lymphatic system of the oropharyngeal mucosa;
- chronic tonsillitis;
- regular consumption of too hot or cold food sooner or later leads to hypertrophic processes on the back wall of the oropharynx;
- hypovitaminosis and other deficient conditions can also lead to a pathological condition of the oropharyngeal mucosa;
- hormonal changes in the body can also lead to chronic pharyngitis, for example, atrophic pharyngitis often develops in postmenopausal women;
- injuries of the oropharynx;
- various infections (viruses, bacteria, fungi), including specific ones: scleroma, syphilis, tuberculosis.
- allergic;
- resulting from exposure to chemicals or physical factors, such as radiation;
- gastroesophageal reflux, which results in severe chemical irritation of the mucous membrane of the oropharynx;
There are three forms of chronic pharyngitis:
1. Catarrhal, when there is hyperemia, redness of the mucous membrane of the oropharynx and which develops in the initial stages of the development of chronic farngitis.
3. Atrophic - the most difficult to tolerate form of chronic pharyngitis. With this form, thinning of the mucous membrane of the oropharynx is observed, the latter becomes shiny and dry.
3. Hypertrophic - perhaps the most common form of chronic pharyngitis. With this form, the lymphoid tissue of the mucous membrane of the oropharynx is affected. On the back wall, enlarged individual areas are visible, which represent enlarged areas of the immune tissues of the oropharynx.
Symptoms of chronic pharyngitis
- perspiration and dryness in the throat;
- Often there is pain when swallowing;
- frequent, and sometimes constant sensation of a foreign body in the throat;
- unproductive dry cough or coughing
- the general condition of the patient is not disturbed
Treatment of chronic pharyngitis:
- with exacerbation of chronic tonsillitis (with tonsillitis) - antibacterial therapy (antibiotics), rinses (antiseptics), symptomatic therapy (decrease in body temperature, pain therapy);
- in the stage of remission - sanitation of the lacunae of the palatine tonsils by various methods: washing the tubules of the tonsils with antiseptics using special syringes or the Tonsillor apparatus;
- tonsillectomy;
- treatment of diseases of the paranasal sinuses, dentoalveolar system;
- cauterization of hypertrophied areas of the posterior wall of the oropharynx;
- treatment of gastroesophageal reflux;
- with atrophic pharyngitis softening oil inhalations;
- to give up smoking;
- restoration of nasal breathing;
- Allergy treatment;
